OTTAWA – Canadians are hooked on social networking, and our country’s younger demographic spends the equivalent of a full day online each week, according to two new reports from Media Technology Monitor.
The reports look at how Canadians spending more time using the Internet in their homes and while on-the-go, as well as the widespread use of social networking among Canadians. Internet use in Canada continues to rise and is nearly ubiquitous among certain demographic groups. Almost 90% of Canadians have an Internet connection in the home and the majority have high-speed.

OTTAWA and KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON – CBC Radio’s Waterloo Region morning show will resume its broadcast Friday morning after receiving CRTC approval of its broadcast license Thursday afternoon – which it didn’t have when it first launched the station last month.
CBC Radio called the mistake an “operational error,” and suspended the show late Tuesday following a complaint filed with the CRTC by the Ontario Association of Broadcaster’s government committee that the station had launched without CRTC approval.

OTTAWA – CBC Radio pulled its new Waterloo Region local morning show it launched just over five weeks ago off the air yesterday because the CRTC has not yet approved the service.
The public broadcaster says it anticipates the shutdown of The Morning Edition show will be temporary as it awaits for final approval from the Commission of its broadcast application. GATINEAU – Quebecor Media’s Sun News compared itself to a wireless new entrant Tuesday saying it needs to benefit from a regulatory mechanism in order for it to compete against the established news players, company executives argued before the CRTC on the first day of the Commission’s 9(1)(h) hearing.

TORONTO – The CBC, Bell Media and Shaw Media are the top three English broadcaster recipients of Performance Envelope allocations for 2013-2014 as announced today by the Canada Media Fund.
Of the CMF’s program budget of $360.7 million, $173.3 million has been allotted in Performance Envelopes for 21 English broadcasters. CBC will receive $58.1 million, Bell Media $32.6 million and Shaw Media will receive $27.3 million. Thirteen French broadcasters will share $85.7 million, of which Radio-Canada will receive $32,7million, Groupe TVA $22 million and Astral (French) $16.4 million.
