OTTAWA – Close to 100 Ontario communities have acquired transmission towers that would have otherwise ended up in landfill, thanks to help from the Canadian Association for Community Television Users and Stations (CACTUS).
The towers, formerly used by TVOntario, can be used by the communities to re-establish free over-the-air television services that area residents would otherwise have to obtain via cable or satellite, including TVO and the CBC, as well as high-speed wireless Internet, community TV or radio, or cell phone service.

TORONTO – VIA Rail Canada has launched a new interactive digital platform to provide passengers on VIA Rail trains free access to Canadian programming.
Starting in Spring 2013, the On-Board Entertainment initiative will be available to passengers with laptops, tablets and mobile phones travelling on VIA Rail trains within the Québec City to Windsor corridor.

OTTAWA – A grand project that would see the vast amount of Canadian content currently unavailable for viewing is beginning to make some progress, according to a panel at Prime Time.

OTTAWA – CBC president Hubert Lacroix blasted Sun News Network and Quebecor Inc. today for "?deliberately misleading Canadians"? with allegations that the CBC is a ?"hotbed of sexual harassment."?

OTTAWA – The Office of the Auditor General has found “no significant deficiencies in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s systems and practices” according to its just released audit.
The 2013 Special Examination Report was presented by the Office of the Auditor General to the Corporation’s Board of Directors. “This clean audit opinion is the best result that a federal agency can obtain,” said CBC/Radio-Canada’s president and CEO Hubert T. Lacroix in a statement.

OTTAWA – The Local Programming Improvement Fund, which is to be phased out by September 2014, collected $112.1 million in funding from BDUs in 2012 compared to $106.7 million the previous year. The CBC`s TV stations accounted for more than $47 million paid out from the fund in 2012. The figures come from the latest financial statements released by the CRTC, which includes a listing of all stations that received LPIF support.
