CBC NEWS ANNOUNCED today it is expanding its local news services through the addition of 14 new journalism positions across the country.
“At Canada’s public broadcaster, local is the lens into all that we do,” said Susan Marjetti, general manager of news, current affairs and local at CBC, in a press release.
“Prioritizing local connections will help us tell more of the stories that matter most to people. These newly announced positions across the country are aimed at broadening and deepening our journalism while building relationships with regional and cultural communities.”

Announces 22 nationwide engagement sessions from April 26-Sept. 27
TORONTO and MONTREAL — CBC/Radio-Canada announced today it plans to hold a series of engagement sessions across the country to hear from Indigenous communities about what they want to see from Canada’s national public broadcaster.
In total, 22 engagement sessions are scheduled to take place between April 26 and Sept. 27, 2022. Fourteen of the sessions will be held in English, organized by the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute in partnership with CBC. AS THE FEDERAL government works towards modernizing Canada’s broadcasting system through Bill C-11, its intentions for the future of the country’s national public broadcaster remain murky at best.
The mandate letter provided to Minister of Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez makes it clear the government intends to modernize CBC/Radio-Canada, but what that will look like, how it will be done and when remain mysteries.
Among other things, the minister’s mandate letter says the Corporation’s mandate should be updated “to ensure that it meets the needs and expectations of Canadian audiences, with unique programming that distinguishes it from private broadcasters.”

Few kids prefer watching TV on a smartphone
OTTAWA – More than half of Canadian children aged 2-17 have used a cell phone in the last month, according to CBC’s Media Technology Monitor (MTM), which released a new report today from MTM Junior.
Two in five Canadian children “own a cell phone and 60% have used one in the past month,” a press release explains. “Although usage (87%) and ownership (81%) are the highest among teens, 39% of kids aged 2-6 have used a cell phone in the past month.”

TORONTO and MONTREAL — Canada’s national public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada, announced today it has secured the exclusive broadcast rights in Canada for the Olympic Games and Olympic Winter Games to be held from 2026 to 2032.
The rights agreement signed with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) includes the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, Olympic Winter Games 2030 (the host of which has not been selected yet) and Olympic Games Brisbane 2032.
CBC/Radio-Canada has already been awarded the broadcast rights for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
