Rogers is seeking to purchase the rest of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) before it entertains outside investors.
The telecom’s chief financial officer, Glenn Brandt, said at a CIBC conference Thursday that Rogers has a call option to buy the remaining 25 per cent stake in the sports empire from Larry Tanenbaum’s Kilmer Sports, which has a put option to sell. Both options are due July 2026.

Cogeco urges easing of quotas

The head of Stingray Radio said Thursday that overexposing Canadians to domestic music on radio is pushing them toward streaming services.
“Whether it’s a Canadian song they don’t like or an international song they don’t like, we risk driving them to international, foreign-owned, unregulated streamers,” Steve Jones told the commission studying the definition of Canadian content on audio services.
Jones noted that, through the company’s research and through the years, Canadian music has only captured roughly 10 per cent of consumption in Canada.

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) announced Tuesday a selection of six NFB-produced and co-produced films will be presented at the 2025 Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) this fall.

CBC/Radio-Canada saw its revenue increase 4.4 per cent to $120.7 million in the first quarter of its 2025-2026 fiscal year, compared to the same period in the previous year, according to its quarterly report released earlier this month.
The increase was primarily due to higher TV and digital advertising revenue mostly due to the federal election in April and greater news engagement, CBC’s report says, adding the revenue increase was partially offset by softening demand and declining audiences. Subscriber revenue is higher due to increased subscriber volumes on CBC/Radio-Canada’s digital platforms, the report says.
