Following backlash, Radio-Canada said Friday it has asked Amazon to stop taking subscriptions for its ICI RDI on Prime Video until it can offer the 24-hour French-language news channel on its own ICI Tou.TV service.

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage will call the president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada to explain the public broadcaster’s decision to make its news products available on Amazon Prime Video as add-on subscriptions.
A motion, introduced by Bloc Quebecois MP Martin Champoux, to bring Marie-Philippe Bouchard before the committee was received favourably by the Liberals and Conservatives and passed at the end of the committee’s study session Tuesday on the state of journalism and media.

CBC/Radio-Canada announced Thursday that its all-news channels, CBC News Network and ICI RDI, are now available on Amazon Prime Video as add-on subscriptions.
The service, which provides around the clock live, breaking news coverage, costs $5-per-month and has a seven-day free trial.

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) and CBC Sports announced Tuesday a five-year broadcast partnership that will see marquee games air on CBC TV, including the league’s first best-of-three CEBL Finals, and all games live streamed on CBC Gem and the CBC Sports YouTube channel.
The new agreement marks the return of CBC Sports as the league’s broadcast partner. CBC Sports was the official broadcaster for the CEBL’s inaugural seasons from 2019 through 2022. Bell Media’s TSN and RDS were the league’s broadcast partners from 2023 through 2025.

The CRTC last week approved, by majority decision, a CBC application for a broadcasting licence to operate an English-language FM radio station replacing its AM radio station CFFB Iqaluit and to make technical amendments to its existing rebroadcasting transmitter CFFB-FM-3 in Iqaluit.

The CRTC has set a virtual hearing for April 30, at which it will consider a change of ownership for half a dozen radio stations and an application from CBC to convert its AM station in Cornerbrook, NL to FM.
Among the change of ownership applications is Stingray Radio’s bid to acquire CHUP-FM Calgary, currently branded as Hot AC format C97.7, from Rawlco Radio. Stingray would purchase the assets of the station for $5.5 million, with the total value of the transaction estimated at over $6.1 million.
