TORONTO – The North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) has named Michael McEwen as its director general effective March 26, 2012.
McEwen’s broadcast experience includes a career with CBC/Radio-Canada both in production and in the executive offices, a long association with NABA as a past director, president and secretary general, and an innovator in implementing new technologies such as the introduction of digital HD television in Canada. OTTAWA – Canadian subscribers to Netflix consider the video streaming service as more of a television service than an Internet service, according to a new report by the Media Technology Monitor (MTM).
The report, entitled ‘Internet TV Has Changed: The Rise of Netflix’, found that Netflix is particularly attractive to heavy TV viewers, with Netflix viewers reportedly watching 28% more television than the average Canadian when their Netflix viewing is included.

TORONTO – RTNDA Canada, The Association of Electronic Journalists, has named its Prairie region award winners honouring the best programs, stations and newsgathering organizations in both radio and television.
"These awards are named after some of the pioneers and innovators in our industry, and some of them were the founders of our association fifty years ago," said RTDNA Canada president, Andy LeBlanc, in the announcement. TORONTO – One of the applicants vying for a spot in the Toronto radio market has launched a grassroots campaign designed to elicit support from its future listeners.

TORONTO – Rogers-owned easy-listening pop music station CHFI-FM held on to top spot in the Toronto radio market with a 15.8% share, according to the Winter 2012 portable people meter (PPM) report released by BBM Canada.
For the 13 week period from for November 28, 2011 through February 26, 2012, Toronto’s second spot went to CBC Radio One (CBLA-FM) with an 11% share. Bell Media’s CHUM-FM rounded out the market’s top three stations with a 9.8% share.

OTTAWA – The CRTC has received 22 applications for the coveted 88.1 FM slot in Toronto which vary from a $12 million CanCon promise from Newcap, to an all-business news station from Channel Zero, to a student-supported bid by Ryerson University to reclaim the frequency it lost last year when The school’s CKLN Radio was stripped of its licence.
