MONTREAL – Quebecor Media has created a new section on its corporate website that it says will explain the company’s position on various issues and “correct false statements” (translation).
Called ‘Quebecor Tells You’ (Quebecor vous informe), the area already contains letters and editorials penned by the company’s executive team, including some that it claims “the press refused to publish” (translation). The section is available in French only.
Nothing there yet on the company's ongoing spat with CBC/Radio-Canada, but one expects that can’t be far behind.

OTTAWA – Industry Minister Christian Paradis has been added to the slate of speakers at the International Institute of Communications (IIC) Canada 2011 conference.

OTTAWA – The CRTC has sided with the CBC and dismissed a complaint from a viewer over a headline broadcast on The National hosted by Peter Mansbridge.
A viewer complained about a headline that aired on the May 5th episode of the show which introduced a report about the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The headline stated that bin Laden had “killed 3,000 people” during the September 11, 2001 attacks (the 9/11 attacks).

OTTAWA – The CBC has complied with an order by the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics to provide documents requested under Access to Information (ATI) by Quebecor Media and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. But the public broadcaster’s president, Hubert Lacroix, told an audience at the National Press Gallery Monday that the documents were given under protest, and some were sealed.

OTTAWA – CBC/Radio-Canada has handed over some, but not all, of the documents requested by the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. And some of them remain sealed.
The move follows an order by the Committee that the national broadcaster produce records requested under Access to Information by Quebecor Media and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. MONTREAL – Veteran journalist Pierre Tourangeau has been named the new Ombudsman at Radio-Canada.
With more than three decades of experience in media, Tourangeau was most recently the senior director of content, news and current affairs information for Radio-Canada.
