TORONTO – CBC has wrested the Juno Awards back from CTV after inking a new six-year exclusive broadcast partnership with the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
The 47th annual Juno Awards will air live on CBC from Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on Sunday, March 25, 2018, following Juno Week celebrations which are scheduled to kick off March 19.

TORONTO – The late Stuart McLean has been named as the 2017 recipient of the RTDNA’s prestigious President’s Award, the organization announced Wednesday.
The President’s Award, the highest honour bestowed by the association, acknowledges an individual who has brought recognition and distinction to the field of electronic and digital journalism. The award will be presented posthumously to McLean’s sons at the President’s Reception on May 26 during the 2017 RTDNA National Conference & Awards Gala.

MONTREAL – CBC/Radio-Canada’s new home in Montreal has received the go-ahead from the Treasury Board of Canada.
The approval of the new Maison de Radio-Canada (MRC) construction project also includes the sale of the existing facility and western part of the lot to Groupe Mach. In the coming months, CBC/Radio-Canada pledged to finalize its agreements with the promoters and complete other steps with the City of Montreal before ground is broken.

OTTAWA-GATINEAU – The CRTC has released its new three-year plan that includes a review of the CBC, a decision on phasing out the local service subsidy regime, and a potential overhaul of the framework for interconnection between carriers.

TORONTO – The CBC is feeling the heat from viewers decrying its much ballyhooed docu-drama series Canada: The Story Of Us.
The 10 episode series, which debuted March 26, uses a mix of fact-based drama, CGI sequences and documentary-style virtual reality experiences to tell the country’s history. TORONTO – Guy O’Sullivan, founder and president of Canadian production company Proper Television, passed away suddenly over the weekend at the age of 49.
With a career in the television industry spanning more than 20 years, O’Sullivan began as a print journalist in the U.K. before producing and directing shows for the BBC between 1994 and 2000. TORONTO – Bell Media said today it has signed a deal with Ole, an independent rights management company, to market the Canadian media company’s original music, worldwide.
The deal is an exclusive music publishing and administration partnership “encompassing Bell Media's extensive in-house music catalog. With this deal, ole has concluded $20-million in acquisitions in the first quarter of 2017,” reads the press release.
