TORONTO – Telus will invest an additional $1.5 billion in new communications infrastructure and technology across Ontario through 2020, including $250 million this year alone, the company said Tuesday.
Telus said that the funds will be used to further enhance the speed, capacity and coverage of its wireless networks in the province, connect more businesses directly to its gigabit-enabled fibre network, and to enhance its healthcare solutions for Ontario healthcare providers and citizens.

VANCOUVER – Telus is asking its shareholders to turn down an unsolicited mini-tender offer made by TRC Capital Corporation.
The company said that TRC Capital is seeking to purchase up to 3 million Telus common shares, or approximately 0.51% of the company's outstanding common shares, at a price below market price for Telus shares.

REGINA – Bell, Rogers and Telus have reportedly registered to lobby SaskTel, something which came to light just days after a privatization bill was passed that allows the provincial government to sell up to 49% of the Crown corporation.
That law, known as Bill 40, received Royal Assent late last week. According to a Regina Leader-Post report, representatives of the Big Three are listed on Saskatchewan’s lobbyist registry.

According to the J.D. Power 2017 Canadian Wireless Customer Care Study, customers who are delighted with their wireless carrier experience cite high rates of behaviours that demonstrate courtesy, concern and knowledge. Delighted customers also have much higher levels of loyalty and advocacy.

MONTREAL – The acquisition of MTS combined with slowing television and Internet subscribers helped to pull down first quarter profits by 4.4%, BCE said Wednesday.
Net earnings fell to $725 million in Q1 while net earnings attributable to common shareholders dropped 4.0% to $679 million due to higher severance, acquisition and other costs and an increased average number of BCE common shares outstanding, both due to the acquisition of MTS.
