Quebecor and TVA annual general meetings will be virtual-only next month

MONTREAL — Quebecor and its TVA Group subsidiary will hold their annual general meetings virtually next month, in keeping with restrictions implemented by the federal and Quebec governments in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and out of concern for the well-being of all participants, the company announced Monday. Shareholders are asked to follow the AGMs online via video webcast, as they will not be able to physically attend the meetings. CBC Renewal: Quebecor condemns Radio-Canada’s behaviour; claims below-cost ad sales (updated)

By Denis Carmel GATINEAU – Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the CRTC public hearing into the renewal of CBC/Radio-Canada’s broadcast licences that was supposed to happen in May has been postponed until further notice, but the deadline for interventions remained back at February 20th. However, that did not stop Quebecor from sending a letter to the CRTC on April 14 requesting the Commission put the letter on the renewal’s record, so the issues it raises can be discussed at the hearing, whenever that might happen. Videotron extends unlimited to June 30th

MONTREAL – Videotron announced Saturday it will continue to waive any data overages on residential and business Internet plans until June 30. The move will help support telework and allow people to stay connected without worrying about going over their plan’s data limit during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. GATINEAU – The CRTC expedited the release of its decisions on two broadcast transactions, announcing today Bell Media can proceed with its purchase of the V television network and Leclerc Communications can purchase CJPX-FM Montreal. TVA manager tests positive for Covid-19

MONTREAL – Quebecor broadcaster TVA announced Monday a manager who works as a member of its TVA News team in Sherbrooke has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. As a precaution, the broadcaster sent all members of the TVA Sherbrooke news team home to remain segregated until it hears instructions from Quebec Public Health. Quebecor laying off 10% of employees

MONTREAL – We’re still in the early days of the Covid-19 crisis, but some companies are already acting in the face of declining revenues. The latest is Quebecor, which said it is temporarily laying off 10% of its workforce, which means about 1,000 people are now out of work as of Monday.
