“This is the world’s first implementation of core network functions on Google Distributed Cloud Edge, a fully managed product that brings Google Cloud’s infrastructure and services closer to where the data is being generated and consumed,” explains a press release.

TORONTO – The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (the Canadian Academy) announced yesterday it is launching an eight-month Executive Residency Program, which will match working professionals who are Black, Indigenous, or a person of colour with high-level executives.
This new initiative is designed “to break down the barriers that currently exist for the next generation of creative executives and business leaders,” a press release explains.

OTTAWA – Ericsson and Carleton University announced today they have established a new $2-million Ericsson Chair in 5G Wireless Research as part of their already existing partnership, the Ericsson-Carleton University Partnership for Research and Leadership in Wireless Networks.
The Ericsson Chair in 5G Wireless Research is held by Ioannis Lambadaris (above), Chancellor’s professor in Carleton’s systems and computer engineering department, and is designed “to explore solutions to the real-world application challenges of 5G,” a press release says.

TORONTO — The Ontario government announced today it is providing more than $11.4 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to support the film and television industry in Northern Ontario.
Earlier this month, Ontario announced $2 million in funding to support the film and TV industry in North Bay specifically.
In today’s announcement, the government said a total of 27 projects across Northern Ontario are receiving NOHFC funding.

GATINEAU – The Government of Canada today announced it is extending its Short-Term Compensation Fund (STCF) for Canadian audiovisual production until March 31, 2023.
“While it is encouraging that many productions have already resumed thanks to the Fund’s support, there is still a pressing need for this program, especially as the public health situation continues to evolve,” a Canadian Heritage press release says.

SECOND SCREENING, BRAIN DRAIN and the metaverse are all topics addressed by the Canada Media Fund’s (CMF) upcoming key trends report, according to the sneak peek given today at the Canadian Media Producers Association’s Prime Time conference.
