Wireless, broadband, specialty to continue driving growth in $62B Canadian media and telecom biz

TORONTO – While rating the industry as “outperform”, a BMO Capital Markets report published Monday says the Canadian media and telecom business will generate $62 billion in revenue in 2012 and see an overall growth rate of about 3%, as compared to last year. Of that revenue, about 75% comes from our big four of BCE, Rogers Communications, Telus and Shaw Communications. TORONTO – Following a series of marathon bargaining sessions, Canadian performers and producers have reached a new independent production agreement (IPA) governing English-language production in Canada. The Alliance of Canadian Cinema and Radio Artists (ACTRA), the Association des producteurs de films et de television (APFTQ) and the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) commenced negotiations on October 30 in Toronto, and concluded the negotiations in Montreal in the early hours of Saturday morning. Days numbered for area codes in Ontario/Alberta – CRTC

OTTAWA-GATINEAU – The CRTC says it’s beginning plans now to respond to a telephone number shortage expected to impact southern Ontario and all regions of Alberta by 2017/18. The Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA) has advised the CRTC that southern Ontario area codes 226 and 519 are expected to run out of telephone numbers by January 2017. The CNA has also advised that all area codes in Alberta, 403, 587 and 780, are expected to run out by June 2018. The CNA administers the distribution of phone numbers in Canada under the oversight of the CRTC. Continue Reading
