TORONTO – CBC today announced broadcast and streaming premiere dates for its fall 2020 slate of new and returning shows.
The lineup includes 1,300 new hours, 24 series and launches Monday, October 5 with the new thriller The Sounds and season two of Pure on CBC TV and the free CBC Gem streaming service.

VANCOUVER and TORONTO — Vancouver-based Thunderbird Entertainment Group today announced production of the fifth season of its hit CBC original comedy series Kim’s Convenience is beginning today in Toronto.

CALGARY — CBC original family drama Heartland began filming its 14th season in Alberta this week, CBC announced today.
Produced by Dynamo Films and Seven24 Films, season 14 of Heartland (10 episodes x 60 minutes) will premiere in winter 2021 on CBC and CBC Gem. SVOD BEHEMOTH NETFLIX is the number one “Must Keep TV” brand in Canada in 2020, according to the results of a report from Toronto-based Solutions Research Group.
Based on 1,350 interviews in both official languages among Canadians aged 12 and older, this result mirrors SRG’s most recent “Must Keep TV” report in the U.S. where Netflix clinched the top spot, bumping ABC from the top position. OTTAWA — News consumption has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, with almost 50% more online Canadians reporting they have watched local TV news programs during the pandemic compared to the fall of 2019, according to a report from CBC/Radio-Canada’s Media Technology Monitor (MTM).
Released today, the MTM’s News in the Time of Covid report also found a 27% increase in the viewing of Canadian TV news specialty channels during the pandemic.

OTTAWA — Marking the start of the one-year countdown to the rescheduled Tokyo 2021 Paralympic Games, the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) today launched a 10-episode digital series titled Paralympic Super Series Rewind, which will stream on the CPC’s Facebook page as well as CBC Gem and CBC/Radio-Canada’s Sports digital platforms.

TORONTO — Members of ACTRA (the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) have ratified an agreement reached between the performers union and the CBC to extend the current CBC Radio and Television Agreements for a one-year period from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, the union announced Monday.
The agreement extension provides Canadian performers at the CBC with a 1.5% increase to minimum fees, which will be retroactive to July 1, says the news release.

TORONTO — National performers union ACTRA today announced Darryl Kyte has been appointed as senior legal counsel for ACTRA National, effective immediately.
Kyte will report to Marie Kelly, ACTRA’s national executive director and chief negotiator, and will support ACTRA’s objective of improving the working lives of Canadian professional performers, says the news release.
