TORONTO — Ontario’s public broadcaster TVO announced Tuesday former CFL commissioner and CBC Sports executive director Jeffrey Orridge (above) has been named its new CEO. His appointment is effective November 30.

TORONTO/MONTREAL — CBC News today announced trailblazing Black journalist Ernest Tucker will be inducted posthumously into its Hall of Fame on December 15.
Born in 1931, Tucker (above) came to Canada from Bermuda at the age of 14. Despite experiencing the discrimination of the 1950s and ’60s, he persevered in his chosen profession of journalism, and in 1961 he joined the CBC where he is considered to be the corporation’s first Black reporter. Tucker died in January 2019 in Châteauguay.

TORONTO – When the CBC appears in front of the CRTC in January asking for its broadcasting licences to be renewed, the commissioners had better ask the public broadcaster about Tandem, say a large group of former employees.

WOODSTOCK, Ont. — As Canada honours its veterans today, Execulink Telecom in southwestern Ontario announced it is making a $1,000 donation to the Royal Canadian Legion to support its annual Poppy Fund Campaign, which has seen a decrease in sales this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

GATINEAU — The CRTC today announced the public hearing for CBC’s licence renewals will now be held virtually, starting January 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. ET.
The hearing, originally scheduled for May 25, 2020, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and then rescheduled for January 11, 2021. However, when the new hearing date was announced in June, the Commission was still hoping to hold an in-person public hearing in Gatineau.

Broadcaster now in search of four new directors
TORONTO – CBC today said it is restructuring its scripted content team so it can “be more effective and responsive to the independent production community,” the broadcaster announced.
The new structure will include dedicated units for comedy and drama, with each one organized into specific development and current production teams, which means the changes replace the roles of senior director of comedy and drama respectively with a new leadership model that will include a director of development and a director of current production for each scripted content area.
