VICTORIA – CBC’s editor in chief Tony Burman called Joan Donaldson "a news pioneer and one of CBC’s journalistic leaders," in a note to staff last week announcing her death. She was 60.

OTTAWA – CBC has added two sections to its Web site to feed Canada’s growing demand for online information.
CBC.ca has a section on Technology and Science, and one called Consumer Life.
The first covers the latest advances in technology and science, with a focus on how the fields are transforming the way Canadians live. TORONTO – Broadcasting veteran Kevin Shea has been named chair of the Ontario Media Development Corporation, a provincial agency that promotes investment and employment in six cultural industries.
Shea was most recently the president and CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio, but recently started a consulting firm, SheaChez Inc., with clients including the CBC, Standard Broadcasting, and Telus Communications. OTTAWA – Senior vice-president policy and regulatory affairs David Keeble has resigned from the Canadian Association of Broadcasters.
After leaving his spot as senior director, strategic planning and regulatory affairs at the CBC, Keeble became a consultant and has worked for CHUM, Bell Canada, Canadian Heritage, the CBC and the CRTC.
Keeble joined the CAB in the fall of 2004 but has decided to return to consulting, he told Cartt.ca. Today was final day

OTTAWA – Moses Znaimer has now officially returned to broadcasting.
Today the CRTC approved his company’s purchase of classical music radio station CFMX Toronto from Trumar Communications, which is owned by Martin Rosenthal. MZ Media will pay $12 million for the station, it’s digital license and Cobourg repeater.
Znaimer, as most will know, is an accomplished Canadian broadcaster best known for his many years shaping the TV brands of CHUM Ltd. He was a co-founder of Citytv after starting his career with CBC.

WINNIPEG – So much for the DSL disadvantage.
Cable – and to a lesser extent, satellite – companies have long said one of the advantages they have over DSL-pushed digital television delivered over the telephone companies’ legacy systems was that the thickness of their pipe to the home could deliver HD while DSL could not.

IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR, A&E Networks was the first of the American cable channels to reveal their "upfront" presentation to throngs of media buyers, advertising executives and other assorted folk.
I wasn’t there, of course, but I’m sure it was a slick presentation with some of the stars of all of its cool new – if a bit jarring – programming.
