Force Star Choice to comply with licence conditions, CBC tells CRTC

RTNDA Canada announces Prairie regional award recipients

CALGARY – Global News dominated the best newscast section of the TV awards given out by the Association of Electronic Journalists for the best in electronic journalism in the Prairie region in 2007, it was announced Monday. Quebec, Atlantic Canada to get new CTF incentive

TORONTO – Looking to ensure certain levels of TV production is maintained across Canada, the Canadian Television Fund today announced the creation of a new production incentive. The pilot program is designed to encourage production where volumes have declined significantly, said the press release. The first production areas to benefit from this $5 million incentive include Atlantic Canada and Quebec, where production activity fell below the target level in 2007-2008, reads the statement. ExpressVu to keep data private

OTTAWA – Bell Canada won’t be making public data to support its claim that over-the-air fee-for-carriage rate hikes will prompt subscribers to drop its ExpressVu service. In a letter, dated April 25, to the CRTC, Bell’s regulatory affairs chief Mirko Bibic said it won’t file the data because of its “great commercial sensitivity’’ and “the Commission’s disinclination to accept it on a confidential basis,’’ even though the CRTC Chairman Konrad von Finckenstein said Bell could file the data in confidence. Internet usage among new Canadians higher than national average: SRG

TORONTO – New Canadians – South Asian and Chinese immigrants in particular – are connected to the Internet in above-average numbers, according to a new study by Toronto-based market research firm Solutions Research Group (SRG). SRG research reveals 88% of South Asian and Chinese households in Canada have a PC, which is above the Canadian general population average of 83%.
