TORONTO – Top line results from the Canadian radio ratings across Canada won’t cause too many PDs to break into a sweat.
A few top line (A12+) ratings share highlights:
* Cogeco’s CJMF-FM 93.3 (Rock and Talk) saw a nice spike to a rating of 13.8, up from its S1 showing of 10.8 and well ahead of a year ago, when it came in with a 7.1 showing
* Astral’s English-language Montreal rock station, CHOM-FM rebounded in the ratings to an 11.8 in this book. That’s up from S1’s 9.9 rating but still well off S2 2007’s 14.
* In Ottawa, Newcap’s Hot 89.9 (CIHT-FM) continues to grow, posting a top line rating of 11.5 in S2 2008, up from last book’s 8.9 and last year’s 9.1.
* Staying in Ottawa, CTV’s Majic 100 grew three full points to 12.9, which solidifies a year-long three-point growth. It’s the top English station in the market this time around.
* In Toronto, CTV’s CHUM-FM and Rogers’ CHFI continue to battle for top spot with the Rogers station posting a 10.3 this book and CHUM, a 10.2. Last book it was 9.6 and 8.4, respectively.
* Moving west, Winnipeg’s CJKR Power 97, a Corus station, jumped up to a 9.5 in S2, up from 7.7 in the last book and ahead of the 7.3 it posted a year ago.
* Not too much to talk about in Calgary as the numbers were pretty static, but in Edmonton, Corus country station 103.9 CISN-FM saw a huge jump year over year from a 5.6 in the S2 2007 book to a 13 this time around. The S1 2008 book pegged its A12+ rating at 9.7.
* In Vancouver, the top growth highlight was Pattison’s country station 93.7 JRFM (CJJR). It posted a 7.1, well ahead of S1’s 4.8 and last year’s 5.8.
As for the lowlights…
* CBC Radio saw a general ratings softening in a number of major markets but the biggest drop came in Ottawa as its S2 rating for Radio One was 8.7, well off S1’s 14.1 and less than half of last year’s 18.7.
* In Montreal, CFQR (light rock Q92, a Corus outlet) saw its ratings dip to 16.2, placing it third in the market. Last book, it was the top-rated station at 19.3 and last year it was also number one at 18.3.
* In Edmonton, Corus talk station 630 CHED saw its ratings slide by two points to 11.3 – which is also off a point from S2 2007. The drop saw the station slide to second in the market behind corporate sister, the aforementioned CISN.
