Bell Media and Fox Entertainment Global have struck a new licensing and distribution pact that sees the companies partner to support original Canadian productions for Bell Media platforms, including CTV and Crave, and FOX in the U.S.
The deal encompasses English-language scripted drama and comedies, unscripted competition, and docuseries with CTV or Crave acting as the commissioning broadcaster. Initial projects will be produced in Canada by Toronto-based production company Neshama Entertainment with global distribution to be handled by Fox Entertainment Global.

Almost 9 in 10 newcomers subscribe to an SVOD service
OTTAWA – Watching video and television content is a regular habit among newcomers to Canada, with 99 per cent saying they have watched online video in the past month and 90 per cent having watched some form of TV content, according to a recent report from CBC’s Media Technology Monitor.
This puts newcomers’ online viewing ahead of the Canadian-born population (93 per cent) and on-par in terms of TV content viewing (89 per cent), says the report, released last week.

TORONTO – CBC/Radio Canada president and CEO Catherine Tait called Thursday for global public broadcasters to obtain certification for trustworthiness to combat disinformation.
Tait was speaking at the Public Broadcasters International conference in Prague, Czech Republic, when she called for the global broadcasters to assist in the fight against disinformation and bolster trust in public media.
She called for public broadcasters to get the Journalism Trust Initiation (JTI) certification, which is issued by Reporters Without Borders. JTI would scrutinize the broadcaster’s transparency and editorial practices in exchange for a label “showcasing and promoting trustworthy journalism,” according to the RWB website.

National public broadcasters CBC/Radio-Canada and Radio New Zealand (RNZ) announced Tuesday a new partnership agreement focused on the key areas of Indigenous cultures and languages, podcasts and journalist training.
According to a press release, the threefold agreement will see the two public broadcasters do the following: share knowledge, experiences and best practices to better reflect the respective diversity of Indigenous cultures and languages; share podcast content and explore collaboration on cross-promotion and possible co-productions; and share knowledge, best practices and learnings about journalist training and explore potential content exchanges and collaboration.

TORONTO – Production company Vérité Films, in association with Jeremy Fisher Music and Hidden Pony Records, announced Tuesday CBC original animated kids’ series Jeremy and Jazzy is premiering new episodes today on CBC Gem in English and on Radio-Canada’s ICI TOU.TV platform in French.
