CBC/Radio-Canada says it will consider “all possible measures” to manage its financial pressures, following criticism from current and former journalists that the public broadcaster wasn’t considering cuts to executive bonuses as it looks for $125 million in savings.
The public broadcaster announced last week that it would eliminate 800 positions as part of that cost-cutting, amounting to about 10% of its workforce, and reduce its English and French programming budgets, including $40 million in independent production commissions and program acquisitions.

Representatives from CBC/Radio-Canada said Tuesday that its decision Monday to eliminate jobs is one reason why it needs to have access to any base contributions made by online platforms.
The public broadcaster said it was eliminating 600 positions and leaving another 200 vacancies unfilled – amounting to roughly 10 per cent of its full-time equivalent staff of roughly 7,900 – as it undergoes a $125-million cost-cutting measure in fiscal 2024-2025.

CBC/Radio-Canada is officially cutting 600 positions and will leave another 200 vacancies unfilled as the public broadcaster looks to undertake $125 million in cost-cutting measures for fiscal 2024-25.
Amounting to roughly 10% of CBC/Radio-Canada’s full-time equivalent staff of about 7,900, employees across the country received the news Monday afternoon in two virtual meetings, one in English and one in French.
The public broadcaster says CBC and Radio-Canada will each be cutting in the range of 250 jobs, with the balance coming from Technology & Infrastructure and other corporate divisions.

TORONTO – Indie production company Blink49 Studios, backed by global producer and distributor Fifth Season (formerly Endeavor Content), announced Tuesday it is acquiring a majority stake in Vancouver-based Front Street Pictures.

CBC last Friday announced journalist Travis Dhanraj will be the new host of CBC News Network’s daily prime time program Canada Tonight, starting in January.
This follows prior host Ginella Massa’s departure from the program during the summer.
Canada Tonight recently expanded to a two-hour format, airing from 7 to 9 p.m. ET on weeknights, “a longer format that will build on Dhanraj’s strengths,” says a CBC press release.
