Feds re-open CBC CEO job posting

OTTAWA – It looks as though Hubert Lacroix will remain CEO of CBC for a while longer as the federal government has re-opened the job posting. Lacroix’s official term came to an end on December 31st, but the government announced on December 19th (when five new members of the CBC board of directors were officially appointed), that Lacroix would stay on past the end of the year until a replacement was announced. TLN to serve up multilingual Olympics coverage in 2018, 2020

TORONTO – CBC/Radio-Canada has named Telelatino Network Inc. (TLN) as an official licensed broadcaster for coverage of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, allowing Canadians to enjoy coverage of the Olympic Games in more languages. Primetime online: Canadian Netflix users now watching more than 90 minutes a day

OTT leader climbs into top five favourite TV brands TORONTO – New research shows that American streamer Netflix has climbed into the top five favourite TV brands among English-speaking Canadians – and is number one among millennials. PIAC demands telco sales inquiry

CBC’s Lacroix still on the job as search for successor continues

OTTAWA – Hubert Lacroix, the outgoing president and CEO of CBC-Radio-Canada, will remain in the role he took on 10 years ago as the search continues for his successor. Rogers, CBC extend ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ deal

TORONTO – Rogers Media and CBC have inked a new seven-year sub-licensing agreement for English-language broadcasts of Hockey Night in Canada and the Stanley Cup playoffs. The new deal, announced Tuesday, will begin with the NHL's 2019-20 season and run through the end of the 2025-26 season which is when Rogers’s 12-year, $5.2 billion national broadcast rights deal with the NHL is due to expire.  It follows a previous four-year sub-licensing deal and one-year extension.  As part of the new deal, CBC will continue to air nationally-televised regular season games on Saturday night plus all four rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Hockey… Continue Reading

CBC/Radio-Canada hits digital targets early

OTTAWA – CBC/Radio-Canada has doubled its digital reach two and a half years ahead of schedule.
