EDMONTON – Super Channel has commissioned the second season of Canadian Mennonite drug drama Pure.
Inspired by actual events, Pure tells the story of a newly-elected pastor trapped into working for a cocaine-smuggling ring that operates within his closed Mennonite community. CBC aired the first season of the Canadian Screen Award nominated series.

WINNIPEG – As long as the federal government and their provincial counterparts keep allowing Netflix to do business in Canada without at least collecting sales taxes, they are perpetuating a structural imbalance in favour of the big U.S. streamer (and others) over Canadian competitors.

In the late 1960s, CBC augmented its commitment to Canadian artists by producing original albums by home-grown talent and distributing them on vinyl solely to broadcast affiliates in Canada and North America in runs of just 250 copies. TORONTO – CBC has brought back the Format Incubator for a third year in a move that it says underscores its commitment to creating original unscripted television formats.

OTTAWA – Long time film, television and digital content maker Catherine Tait has been named president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly announced this morning. She will be the first woman to hold the top job at Canada’s public broadcaster.

VANCOUVER – Corus Entertainment let go personalities from at least four of its radio stations this week in a move that it says will “further grow audiences across multi-platforms”.
A report in The Province said that restructuring at Vancouver talk radio station 980 CKNW saw three veteran hosts depart, while a CBC report said that radio personalities at London stations AM 980 CFPL, Country 104 and FM 96 were dismissed.
