Cable / Telecom News

Only 2 days left to save on your www.cartt.ca subscription!

WE HOPE READERS HAVE ENJOYED the four-month free preview of www.cartt.ca. We do our best to cover the vital issues that affect executives, managers and employees of companies of all sizes in the cable, radio, television and telecom trade.

Since our May 2nd launch, we’ve delivered original journalism – breaking news, feature stories, interviews and viewpoints – important to the domestic industry. In fact, since launch, www.cartt.ca has published almost 800 stories which have appeared in our twice-weekly newsletters that hit in-boxes promptly at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That’s more than nine per business day, and includes many stories broken here first.

On Tuesday, September 6th, however, www.cartt.ca becomes a subscription site because gathering this type of information takes resources – and we’re hoping that the $75-a-year subscription fee (plus GST) will be affordable. The job board, press release and events sections, however, will always be viewable to anybody, at no charge.

Corporate bulk subscription rates are available by request (click the e-mail below) for companies with many readers – and any individual wishing to sign up before Friday, September 2nd will get 10%-off the regular $75 rate by clicking subscriptions@cartt.ca and requesting a subscription form.

That subscription charge will go towards producing the breaking news, feature stories and original information readers have become familiar with, such as:

• Our Tuesday Interviews: which have featured the likes of Rogers Cable CEO Edward Rogers, Alliance Atlantis CEO Phyllis Yaffe, The Edge 102.1 Program Director Alan Cross, CHUM EVP David Kirkwood; and Telus EVP Janet Yale. We also had what turned out to be the final one-on-one interview with now-former CBC programming head Slawko Klymkiw before he left the Corp.

• Our Thursday Commentary/Analysis section is an opinionated column where an industry topic is broken down and analyzed. This space is open to anyone in the industry, by the way, who wants to expound on a topic in 800 to 1,000 words. Last week’s was a timely piece by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ president and CEO Glenn O’Farrell on Bill C-60, the Federal government’s new Copyright reform bill.

• While other industry publications have cut back, www.cartt.ca now has four contributing editors on board. They are: Laurel Hyatt (Radio Editor), Tara Blasco Raj (Western Canadian Editor), Glenn Wanamaker (Quebec Editor) and John Bugailiskis (Consumer Electronics Editor). Click here for more on each of these distinguished, talented journalists which have joined the www.cartt.ca team.

• www.cartt.ca is committed to covering the industry – in person. If the industry is there, we’re there. Since launch, www.cartt.ca has attended the Banff International Television Festival, the Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) conference in Toronto, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) conference in San Antonio, the Cable Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) Conference in Philadelphia, the Canadian Telecom Summit in Toronto, and the Voice over Internet Protocol and satellite radio decisions from the CRTC in Ottawa.

No other industry publication can say it has been to all of these important events.

• Since launch, www.cartt.ca has become the place to turn to for information that matters and breaking news. To cite a recent example, www.cartt.ca broke the news this month that Toronto 1 will change its name to SUN TV next month.
