VANCOUVER – Rogers Communications and Wavefront, Canada's wireless centre of excellence for commercialization and research, are teaming up a on new centre that helps technology innovators develop products and bring them to market faster.
Called the Rogers Wireless Innovation Centre, the facility will offer innovators the opportunity to learn and connect with the latest global wireless technology, work with key developers, and share their solutions with industry leaders. It is scheduled to open in Vancouver this spring.

TORONTO – CTV Toronto has launched an interactive online video platform that it says puts viewers in the heart of its latest news stories.
Shot via iPhone with ‘Dot’ technology from Kogeto, CTV’s 360 View allows viewers to go to its website and immerse themselves in news stories by seeing everything that’s happening from a 360 degree viewpoint. AFTER ITS HIGHEST voter turnout on record, the Ontario chapter of the SCTE has added three new members to its board of directors for the 2012 – 2013 term.
D’Arcy Brown (Rogers) and Joe Caruso (Clearcable Networks) were both named as directors, while Scott McPhail (Telonix) was named secretary. They join current board members Joe Ciccone, Mario Massi and James Myles.
The organization’s bylaws require six board members, elected for two year terms, with three board members replaced each year in order to provide continuity.

TORONTO – Rogers Media said Tuesday that it is acquiring a 100% stake in Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) which it will re-launch as Citytv Saskatchewan.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Rogers said that the move allows its Citytv network to expand its footprint in key markets, provide a national platform for its programming, and support SCN’s “historical role of offering educational programming”.

TORONTO – Rogers Communications has launched a sports-themed barker channel called Sportsnews designed to promote its sports services and content.
Available free to digital cable customers in Ontario and Atlantic Canada on channel 999 in SD and HD, the channel promises timely information on scores, stats, fantasy information and breaking news for sports fans.

LAS VEGAS – Rogers Communications will be one of the first service providers to use Cisco’s Videoscape TV platform to deliver their next-generation video services.
Videoscape, unveiled Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show, brings together digital TV and on-line video content with social media and communications applications.
