Cableco behaviour towards independent ISPs “seriously damaging” their business: CNOC

OTTAWA – The Canadian Network Operators Consortium has filed an application with the CRTC asking that a number of new regulations be applied to cable company ISPs who are not fairly treating its members acting as third party internet access providers. Rodrigues tapped as new director of original programming at Rogers Media

TORONTO – Nataline Rodrigues has left the CBC to take on the role of director of original programming at Rogers Media starting October 1st.  Rodrigues (pictured) will manage the submission, development, and production of original Canadian programming for all Rogers Media non-sports television brands.  In addition to working with the independent community to evaluate pitches and proposals for both development and production, she will oversee the current slate of original series including Package Deal, Seed, Storage Wars Canada, The Project: Guatemala, Mother Up!,  and The Bachelor Canada.  Rodrigues will report to VP of programming & content Hayden Mindell. Rogers launches digital magazine service

TORONTO – Rogers is rolling out the country’s first all-you-can-read subscription digital magazine service next month which will offer tablet users unlimited access to a catalogue of more than 100 Canadian and U.S. titles. Rogers, Sprint partner on connected cars

TORONTO – Rogers Communications and Sprint Corp. said Thursday that they are teaming up on an in-car infotainment and telematics system in Canada that will offer services such as high-speed Internet to drivers as early as next year. Auto manufacturers that install Sprint Velocity in Canada will use Rogers' wireless networks to provide connected services including infotainment (news, weather, sports), navigation, climate control, security, emergency services and vehicle diagnostics via an in-dash touch screen.  Sprint Velocity also provides connectivity for mobile devices in the car. Rogers raising US$1.5 billion

TORONTO – Rogers Communications said Wednesday evening that it has priced a US$1.5 billion underwritten public offering of debt securities. The offering consists of US$850 million aggregate principal amount of 4.1% senior notes due 2023 and US$650 million aggregate principal amount of 5.45% senior notes due 2043. The net proceeds from the issuance of the debt securities will be approximately US$1.481 billion, said the company’s press release, which are expected to be used for general corporate purposes. Wireless consortium on track for $50M underground mobile network in Montreal

MONTREAL – Bell, Rogers, Telus and Videotron said Wednesday that they are teaming up on a new $50 million mobile network for the Montréal metro, a move that will make that city one of the first in the world equipped with a 4G LTE mobile underground network on its subway system. Foreign wireless players conspicuously absent from 700 MHz spectrum initial bidders

OTTAWA – As widely suspected, no foreign wireless carriers were named as potential bidders for the 700 MHz wireless spectrum according to the list released by Industry Canada early Monday morning. The 15 potential bidders includes incumbents Bell Mobility, Telus and Rogers Communications, as well as regional carriers MTS, SaskTel, T-Bay Tel, EastLink/Bragg Communications and Videotron.  Also named is Wind Mobile parent Globalive Wireless, fixed-wireless operator Vecima and Vancouver-based Novus Wireless. Rogers adds Pivot Data Centre, Granite Networks to fold

TORONTO – Rogers Business Solutions is beefing up its data centre capabilities with the purchase of Pivot Data Centre and Granite Networks. The company said Monday that it is acquiring Pivot Data Centres for cash consideration of $155 million, and Granite Networks for a cash consideration of $6.25 million.  Together, these two businesses currently generate annualized revenues of approximately $30 million.
