Rogers expands wireless service in Winnipeg (corrected)

WINNIPEG – Rogers is working to improve its wireless service and network in Manitoba. The company said Thursday that it has increased its LTE coverage in downtown Winnipeg at Main and Broadway, and that the improved coverage also extends to adjacent commercial businesses and residents in this bustling area of the city.  Construction is also underway on a new cellular tower in the community of Sage Creek in Winnipeg. Cogeco not finished with U.S. cable, says CEO

MONTREAL – When a U.S. branch of Montreal-based Cogeco Communications paid US$1.4 billion for the rest of the MetroCast cable network this year, onlookers wondered how big the company wants to grow down south. HALIFAX – Rogers Communications will provide all connectivity infrastructure for the new Nova Centre development in downtown Halifax, making it one of the most technologically connected commercial hubs in Atlantic Canada. Rogers offers another way for customers to control data usage

TORONTO – Rogers is introducing a new feature to its Share Everything customers that provides them with another way to maximize the use of their data within a family plan. OBITUARY: Cable veteran Carl Newton

TORONTO – Newton Cable founder Carl Newton was laid to rest in Toronto earlier this week after his passing on September 15. Newton was the owner operator of Willowdowns Cable, founded in the late 1960s, which was subsequently rebranded as Newton Cable.  The system served approximately 10,000 subscribers in northwestern Toronto before being purchased by Rogers Cable in 1992. Rogers launches $9.99 Internet service in Waterloo

WATERLOO, ON – Rogers Communications rolled out its Connected for Success program in the Region of Waterloo Wednesday, offering its inexpensive Internet service to approximately 12,000 low-income housing tenants in the surrounding communities. The service, available for $9.99 per month, includes speeds of up to 10 Mbps download and up to 1 Mbps upload and requires no contract or credit checks upon sign up. The Region of Waterloo is the 190th housing provider to partner with Rogers on Connected for Success since the program’s inception in 2013. Rogers to bring low-cost Internet program to Waterloo

WATERLOO, ON – Rogers Communications is planning to extend its Connected for Success program to Waterloo. At an event scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, Rogers is expected to announce a partnership with Waterloo Region Housing to offer its inexpensive Internet service to individuals living in subsidized housing. TSN, Sportsnet split Toronto Raptors games; all home games in 4K

TORONTO – Sports rivals TSN and Sportsnet are once again sharing the Toronto Raptors broadcasts this year, each announcing plans to air 41 of the team’s regular season games during the 2017/18 NBA season. For the first time, all 41 of the team’s regular season home games will air in 4K.  All 82 Raptors telecasts will be produced by NBA TV Canada, and veteran play-by-play voice Matt Devlin will call the action for a 10th season.
