TORONTO – Rogers Communications today announced its Fido brand is eliminating data overage fees with the launch of Data Overage Protection, a new feature which will be included in new Fido data, talk and text plans starting today.

TORONTO – Rogers Media’s OMNI Television is asking its stakeholders, partners and supporters to lend their voices of support as the federal cabinet considers three appeals of the CRTC decision granting the TV channel a license renewal.
TLN Media, as we reported yesterday, has launched its own campaign seeking support.

GATINEAU – It took a lot of asking and there was a lot of complaining along the way (as we reported), but the Competition Bureau is getting what it says it needs from Canada’s wireless carriers as the CRTC reviews the mobile market, which will culminate with a public proceeding coming in January.

MONTREAL – Music service Stingray today announced that it has reached a new long-term agreement with Rogers Communications which will offer more flexibility and choice for viewers with options to choose services based on music preferences.

GATINEAU – While saying it acknowledges some Canadian consumers might want to pay for a new smartphone over three years instead of two, making their monthly payments lower, the CRTC told Canadian wireless carriers this afternoon to stop offering 36-month payment plans.

TORONTO – Ken Stein, former senior vice-president of corporate and regulatory affairs at Shaw Communications, died last week of cancer. He was 76.
After a career as a senior public servant, where he worked closely with former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney as deputy secretary to the federal cabinet for a stretch, Stein was hired in 1991 as president of the former Canadian Cable Television Association.
