In-flight broadband taking off, may be tested in Canada this summer

About 800 airplanes will offer in-flight broadband by the end of this year, which could generate more than US $47 million worldwide, according to a report by In-Stat. OmniGlobe buys RAMTelecom

MONTREAL – OmniGlobe Networks has completed its purchase of Ottawa-based R. A. Misener Telecom Corporation, the operating subsidiary of RAMTelecom, in a cash deal worth $2.40 million. Satellite voice and broadband provider RAMTelecom announced the acquisition in December of 2008. Industry Canada clarifies antenna tower and site sharing regs

OTTAWA – Industry Canada has tweaked its guidelines for compliance with the conditions of licence relating to antenna tower and site sharing and to prohibit exclusive site arrangements. Since the implementation of conditions of licence earlier this year, the Department said that it felt the need to clarify certain areas of the guidelines after it received complaints from various licensees. Acts need updating, von Finckenstein tells broadcast teachers

HALIFAX – He’s not exactly going out on a limb by saying it, but CRTC chairman Konrad von Finckenstein told a group of teachers on Friday that the two dated Acts that govern the CRTC desperately need updating. ACCORDING TO A POLL commissioned by broadcast industry watchdog Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, most Canadians believe that the CBC is “being starved of funds by a government with a vendetta against it”.
