McQueen to receive lifetime achievement award at Banff


TORONTO – One of Canada’s best-known broadcast executives and “industry trailblazer”, Trina McQueen, will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Banff Television Festival on June 8, 2009. 

The Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges outstanding and unique contributions to the broadcasting industry throughout an individual’s career. McQueen’s career of achievements extends to both private and public television as president and COO of CTV, founding president of the Discovery Channel Canada, and head of news, current affairs and Newsworld at CBC.

McQueen is currently on the board of the CBC and is an adjunct professor of broadcast management at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto. She is an officer of the Order of Canada and has been named to the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, the Canadian News Hall of Fame and the Canadian Film and Television Hall of Fame.

“Trina McQueen is a true champion of the Canadian broadcast industry”, said Peter Vamos, executive director of the Banff festival, in the announcement. “During her prominent career she has made significant and enduring contributions to the cultural establishment and future growth of the Canadian television industry. It is a genuine pleasure and honour to present Mrs. McQueen with the Lifetime Achievement Award.”
