Majority treaty co-pros best for Canadian TV industry: report

TORONTO – Majority treaty co-production and Canadian production generate more than double the number of Canadian jobs than minority co-production, according to a report commissioned by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) and the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC). The Nordicity study, called The Employment Intensity of Film and Television Production in Canada, found that Canadian TV production volume in 2009 – 2010 was worth just under $2 billion to the Canadian economy, and the sector generated 47,300 full-time-equivalent jobs, including 18,600 directly in the production of Canadian TV shows. Traversy to take over for retiring Morin as CRTC secretary general

GATINEAU – John Traversy, the CRTC’s executive director, telecommunications, has been named the next Secretary General of the CRTC, Cartt.ca has learned, replacing Robert Morin, who is retiring. More time to comment on electronic commerce protection regs

OTTAWA – The CRTC has extended its deadline for comments on draft electronic commerce protection regulations. The Commission said Monday that comments are now due by September 7th, more than a week later than its initial deadline of August 29. The move comes in response to a request from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) made late last month. Canadian ICT growth slows in first quarter, says Industry Canada

OTTAWA – Industry Canada reports the ICT sector in the first quarter reported its sixth consecutive quarterly increase with a growth of 0.5%, but the rate of growth has slowed compared to the five previous quarters. In comparison real GDP for all Canadian industries grew by 1.1%.
