MONTREAL – Stingray has named former Rogers and Vice Media exec David Purdy as its new chief revenue officer.
Purdy (pictured) comes to Stingray from Vice Media where he was chief international growth officer, instrumental in the launch and worldwide expansion of the Viceland TV channel. He also held various senior roles over a 15-year career at Rogers Communications, plus was involved with the launch of Canadian specialty channels Sportsnet, OLN, Discovery Channel Canada, and The Comedy Network.
In his new role, Purdy will oversee all aspects of Stingray’s revenue expansion including its advertising and sales efforts.

OTTAWA – The Senate Standing Committee on Transport and Communications has released its report on the deductibility of foreign internet advertising.
Aptly named The Tax Deductibility of Foreign Internet Advertising in Canada, the report comes on the heels of hearings held in May and June where the Senate Committee heard from 13 individuals or groups. TORONTO – Registration is now open for the Canada Media Fund (CMF) cross-country consultations that it says will help to shape its policy and future programs.
The process will comprise a number of components, including focus groups in 18 cities, in all provinces and territories, as well as a series of industry working groups. The first focus group is scheduled for September 10 in Moncton (en Francais) and the last will take place October 25 in Whitehorse. I THINK YOUR SUGGESTION that the cultural industries should be funded entirely from the treasury, like the army, and eliminate all levies or similar measures creates worrying problems.
I don’t know where tax credits fit into this model. I do not believe that Canadians would revolt over a modest ISP tax that funded Cancon, especially if “revenue neutral” as the CRTC proposes.

TORONTO — Data centre and connectivity services provider TeraGo experienced growth in its cloud and colocation business in the second quarter of 2018, but saw an overall decrease in revenues due to the weaker performance of its connectivity division.
The company’s total revenues decreased 1.5% to $13.7 million for the second quarter of 2018, compared to $13.9 million for the same quarter of 2017.
