Bell MTS extends LTE Advanced wireless coverage in Southeastern Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Bell MTS has expanded its LTE Advanced (LTE-A) wireless coverage in Manitoba, extending wireless service for the first time to the Southeastern communities of Stuartburn, Woodridge and Zhoda. Part of the $1 billion Bell MTS infrastructure investment plan for the province, LTE-A wireless service will be available in Woodridge this week, and launch in Stuartburn and Zhoda in 2019. Rogers to create new 5G innovation hub on UBC campus

VANCOUVER – Rogers and the University of British Columbia (UBC) are teaming up to build a real-world 5G hub on the UBC campus in Vancouver that will be “a testbed and blueprint for 5G innovation in Canada.” Thursday’s announcement said that the three year, multi-million dollar partnership will see 5G-ready network equipment and infrastructure deployed at UBC starting early next year, designed to study 5G applications such as monitoring cars and traffic to develop smarter and safer cities.  Other research interests include autonomous vehicles, machine learning, artificial intelligence and network slicing technology for use in robotics, farming and medical applications. Northwestel launching new broadband satellite network in Nunavut

IQALUIT – Northwestel will officially launch its new high-speed broadband satellite network serving Nunavut October 1st, the company announced this morning. Iqaluit, Nunavut’s capital and largest community, is the first to have the high-speed network commissioned – and all 25 Nunavut communities will have access to the network in the coming months, said the company in a press release. Industry Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) contributed $49.9 million to the project through its Connect to Innovate program.
