A REPORT FROM TELCO AND CABLE industry supplier Innovative Systems shows Canadians eagerly embraced the return of sports television during the third quarter of 2020.
Data included in the U.S. company’s Canadian TV Channel Stats Q3 2020 report, which will be published in full next week, was captured from the viewing habits of 20,000 set top boxes running the firm’s middleware, the equivalent of nearly 30,000 people, assuming 1.5 viewers per set top box, across Ontario and the City of Vancouver.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Digital service providers, within industries such as telecommunications, cloud and IT services, content and digital media, and technology providers, are forecast to increase private connectivity bandwidth by five times by 2023, primarily driven by greater demands from enterprises to close digital gaps at the edge.

OTTAWA — The federal government announced Tuesday Justice Luc Martineau (above) has been appointed as chair of the Copyright Board of Canada. The announcement was made by Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Navdeep Bains.
Martineau’s five-year appointment as chair was effective October 2. In his new role, he will “help further realize reforms to the Board and eliminate backlogs in decision making to ensure a transparent and predictable marketplace,” reads the government’s press release.

OTTAWA — Nokia announced today as part of its continued partnership with Area X.O (formerly known as the Ottawa L5 and led by Invest Ottawa) it will deploy 4.9G/LTE and 5G private wireless solutions and Nokia drone networks via Area X.O’s 5G Mobile Command Centre van (above) as part of a cross-Canada road trip.

TORONTO — The new industry-wide initiative HireBIPOC.ca has already surpassed 2,300 members in its first week of operation, co-founding partner Bell Media announced today.
HireBIPOC.ca is a web portal which provides an online roster of Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) media and entertainment professionals who work as creatives and crew in Canada’s screen-based industries. When the web portal launched on October 5, it had 500 members signed up.
