beIN SPORT Canada nets broadcast deal with National Basketball League

TORONTO – Premium sports network beIN SPORT Canada has signed a national broadcast television deal with The National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). The three-year deal will include live NBL Canada games in HD on Thursday and Saturday nights starting with the 2014-15 season, plus additional coverage for playoffs and special events like the All Star Weekend.  The NBLC was founded in 2011, and is Canada's only professional domestic basketball league. Telus to take on federal government again with latest $350 million Mobilicity bid

TORONTO – Telus really wants to buy Mobilicity and has made another bid for the company, despite the knowledge the federal government really doesn’t want to see this deal happen. Late Thursday, Data & Audio-Visual Enterprises Holdings and its affiliates (collectively, Mobilicity) announced Telus would acquire it for $350 million. The proposed transaction will move forward under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act rules. Mobilicity has been under creditor protection since September. Online video options continue to squeeze Canadian TV market; 20% say they downgraded last year: study

DALLAS, TX – Approximately one-fifth or 20% of Canadian television service subscribers downgraded their service over the last 12 months, with many opting for an Internet video option instead, according to a new research report from Parks Associates. 700 Mhz auction nets $5.27 billion; Rogers the big buyer while Vidéotron looks to go national

OTTAWA – The Canadian government got its wish for four wireless carriers in each region of the country in its recently completed 700 Mhz spectrum auction, which netted federal coffers $5.27 billion. Overall, the results of the auction show that it was the Big Three that divvied up the majority of the spectrum even though they were limited on buying prime spectrum in the B, C, C1 and C2 blocks.
