Wholesale fibre: CRTC denies Bell’s Review and Vary request (Allstream’s, too)

GATINEAU – In an unsurprising decision, the CRTC denied Bell Canada’s request to review and vary the decision which gives third party independent Internet service providers access to incumbent networks’ newest fibre infrastructure. Bell had submitted a Part 1 application to the CRTC to review and vary Telecom Regulatory Policy 2015-326 that states incumbent telecom providers must introduce a “disaggregated wholesale broadband access service” (DBS) so that independent ISPs gain access to FTTH (fibre to the home) facilities. Eastlink Wireless readies Nothern Ontario launch

TIMMINS, ON – Eastlink Wireless will officially arrive in Northern Ontario next month. Bravo stocks up on new content for June freeview

TORONTO – Bell Media’s Bravo has unveiled a slate of new and returning dramas as it preps for a month-long free preview starting June 1st. Eastlink Wireless coming to northern Ontario in June

HALIFAX – Eastlink will roll out wireless service in northern Ontario starting June 1. Eastlink Wireless is currently available in most of Nova Scotia and PEI.  Mobile Syrup reported this week that Eastlink’s new service will go live in Timmins on June 1 followed by Sudbury on June 9, using spectrum that the company purchased in the 700MHz auction in 2014. GATINEAU – The telecommunications regulator should let market forces and targeted government funding finish the broadband job, according to Quebecor Media.
