Hastings Cable Vision donates Tuned-In winnings to skatepark accessibility initiative

MADOC, ON – Fresh off of its win as one of the CCSA’s 2016 Tuned-in Canada winners, Hastings Cable Vision has announced plans to donate its $1,000 prize to the Madoc Skatepark Accessibility Fund. Discovery’s free preview kicks off October 20

TORONTO – Bell Media’s Discovery is gearing up for its first-ever nationwide free preview this fall which will include the debut of Frontier, its first original Canadian scripted drama. Former CEO Townsend files suit against CCSA

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Alyson Townsend, the former chief executive officer of the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance, has filed a lawsuit against the organization for which she worked for 23 years, claiming wrongful dismissal. The CCSA (a national alliance of independent network owner-operators) and Townsend parted ways last month, as we reported here. She had been CEO since 2001. CCSA unveils 2016 Tuned-in Canada winners

SAINT JOHN – After more than 180 nominations and some 28,000 votes cast across the country, the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA) has announced the winners of the 2016 Tuned-in Canada: The CCSA Awards. The annual contest bills itself as a national celebration of excellence in communications service delivery, community-mindedness, and community channel content development. Townsend out as CEO of CCSA

QUISPAMSIS, N.B. – Alyson Townsend is no longer CEO of the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance. The board of directors of the alliance of independent network operators made the announcement to staff on Friday and to the rest of the industry on Monday. CCSA Connect 2016 opens registration Wednesday

WHISTLER – Registration will open June 8 for the CCSA’s Connect 2016 conference which this year will take place September 19 – 21 at the Fairmont Château Whistler in Whistler, BC. BSO Hearing: Why ISPs say let government funding and market forces work

GATNIEAU – Many broadband Internet providers say the CRTC must refrain from adopting new funding mechanisms for the deployment of high-speed networks to under-served and unserved areas of the country and let the market play it out.
