CALGARY – The data of about 15,000 Freedom Mobile customers was exposed by a security breach from late March to late April, the Shaw-owned carrier confirmed Wednesday.
A CBC report says that Freedom Mobile was apparently warned of the breach by an outside research firm on April 17, 18 and 23, but did not respond to that firm until April 24.
Freedom said its investigation determined that the breach began on March 25 and affected data processed by a new external third-party vendor that had been hired to streamline its retail customer support. The problem was fixed by April 23, continued the carrier, adding that…

MONTREAL – When Catherine Tait became president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, the strategic review that her predecessor, Hubert Lacroix had put in place was in its last phase and therefore she jumped into the elaboration of a new strategic plan that should be launched towards the end of May having been approved by the board.
The previous plan was mostly about the digital transformation of the CBC/Radio-Canada which, according to the CBC had been a great success as they had targeted doubling their digital reach by 2020 but reached that target in 2018.

VANCOUVER – Kim's Convenience creator Thunderbird Entertainment has struck a distribution deal with Encore Inflight Limited for the first two seasons of the Canadian hit comedy.
The agreement will see the series available for in-flight viewing on airlines including Cathay Pacific, Emirates, SilkAir, Scoot, Royal Brunei Airways, Thai Airways, Qantas, and Qatar Airways.
Season three of Kim's Convenience, which premiered in Canada on CBC in January, will also be part of the deal once it is available. A fourth season will begin shooting this spring.

TORONTO – CBC Sports is kicking off its track and field coverage this week with the first of meet of the 2019 season from the IAAF Diamond League.
The 10th season of the Diamond League includes 14 one-day invitational track and field meets taking place across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America over four months that sees international athletes compete for the Diamond Trophy and $1.6 million USD total cash prize.

TORONTO – CBC is bringing back its homegrown competition series Battles of the Blades this fall for a fifth season.
Produced by Insight Productions, the series combines athletes from two of Canada’s favourite sports — figure skating and hockey — as they pair up in a live, high-stakes figure skating competition. OTTAWA – The CRTC has laid out its 2020-2021 Forecast for the next two years under the headings of Telecommunications, Broadcasting and Consumer and public protection.

TORONTO – RTDNA Canada will posthumously recognize Joe Schlesinger with its highest honour, a lifetime achievement award, in recognition of his continued excellence during the course of his career in journalism.
