OTTAWA – The federal government this week confirmed it will contribute $14.6 million to aid the transition of French language TV channel TV5Monde to digital and increase the international visibility of French-Canadian creators.
The Government of Canada is considered a partner in the channel’s ownership, given CBC’s 6.6% ownership stake.
Sylvain Lafrance, former EVP of French services at CBC, has been appointed chair of the board of directors of TV5Numérique, the new subsidiary of TV5 Québec Canada responsible for supporting the development of this project for TV5Monde.

TORONTO – Following this week's announcement by the Federal Elections Debates Commissioner David Johnston on how televised leadership debates will be produced, Rogers’ OMNI Television said it would air and translate them live in Cantonese, Italian, Mandarin, and Punjabi on TV and online.

HALIFAX – Content producer and broadcaster DHX Media today announced Stephanie Betts (right) has been promoted to the role of executive vice president, content, and will be responsible for development and production of the company’s slate of original animated content.

TORONTO – Watchdog group Friends of Canadian Broadcasting launched a newspaper ad campaign this morning urging Canadian political parties to “unfriend Facebook”.
The group's Unfriend Facebook ad has appeared in various Postmedia publications, including the National Post, The Ottawa Citizen, and the Sun papers. Friends plans to place the ad in dozens more publications across the country this week.
