MONTREAL – With a federal election campaign under way, the CBC has decided to delay the air dates of two major mini-series’, lest they have some kind of impact on the process.

TORONTO – Two live concerts next week in Toronto and Montreal will celebrate the launch SIRIUS Canada.
The concerts, on December 6th in Toronto, and December 7th in Montreal will be simulcast live throughout North America and feature well known and emerging Canadian artists.

YEARS BACK, IT WAS EASY to pick on VisionTV. Its programs were old, appearing only on the specialty channel in their second or third (or fourth!) window.
Much of its original “Mosaic” programming looked and sounded terrible – and violated the channel’s Canadian content requirements, it turns out, causing CRTC sanctions. TORONTO – It may have been a boring first half, football-wise, but what with Fergie and The Black-Eyed Peas bounding around at halftime, followed with a barn-burning second half, CBC’s broadcast of the 93rd Grey Cup Championship attracted a national average audience of 3.168 million viewers.
Audiences peaked at over 3.7 million between 9 and 9:30 p.m. ET.
An average of 2.764 million watched the entire broadcast (including the pre-game player introductions and post-game interviews) from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Edmonton edged Montreal 38-35 in overtime, the first OT game in 44 years.

TORONTO – Al Pervin has been hired as general manager of The Jewel 98.5 FM, the new Evanov Radio Group station which is expected to sign on-air in January of 2006.

TORONTO – Next week, new Humber College radio station CKHC 96.9 FM will launch as likely the only all-Canadian station in the country.
The station plans to play nothing but music by Canadian artists.
The Humber campus radio station has been operating at the north campus since 1973. CKHC 90.7 FM currently operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In 2003 the school applied to the CRTC for a ‘developmental campus license’ to operate a new radio station on the FM frequency of 96.9. The college was officially awarded a license as of Sept. 13, 2004.

OTTAWA – In a press release on Tuesday, the Coalition Against Satellite Signal Theft (CASST) said it was pleased with the Quebec Superior Court’s recent sentencing decision of Reggie Scullion who was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada of two counts of illegal activities related to theft of satellite TV service from DirecTV.
Scullion, who pled guilty in Quebec Superior Court, must forfeit more than $4 million in cash and other property that had been seized by the government in connection with the case, with $1.1 million of the funds to be distributed to DirecTV and the remainder…

OTTAWA – After hearing from CBC executives on October 27th, the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage has told Parliament it should appoint a task force to examine the nation’s public broadcaster.
The five-paragraph report from committee chair, MP Marlene Catterall says, “the government should undertake to establish an independent task force to review the mandate role and services of the CBC-SRC; to establish the role the public broadcaster must have and the services it must provide in light of the new media environment and technological advances.
