CBC cuts profit participation, retransmission royalties from deals with Canadian independent producers

TORONTO – CBC said Monday that it has ended the collection of both profit participation and retransmission royalties on all projects that it has pre-licensed from Canadian independent producers, regardless of its level of investment, effective immediately. CBC rides more equestrian events through 2020

CBC Breaking Barriers Film Fund selects three new projects

TORONTO – Three new feature films have been selected as recipients of CBC’s Breaking Barriers Film Fund for underrepresented Canadian creators. Canadian Paralympic Broadcast Media Consortium takes home gold for Rio 2016

ABU DHABI, UAE – The Canadian Paralympic Broadcast Media Consortium has won the 2017 Paralympic Media Award in the broadcast category for its coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Da-Ré joins Telelatino

TORONTO – Multilingual media company Telelatino has announced the appointment of industry veteran Errol Da-Ré to the newly created position of  chief revenue officer. OTTAWA – Protection for Canadian broadcasting and publishing are among a list of key demands for a new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) as talks begin in Washington this week. A CBC report says that Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland will include cultural exemptions among Canada's 10 NAFTA demands. Consultation launched to reform Copyright Board of Canada

OTTAWA — The Government of Canada announced Wednesday it is seeking input into proposed legislative and regulatory changes to the Copyright Board of Canada’s decision-making processes. The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED), and the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, jointly with the Copyright Board of Canada, launched consultations to allow interested parties to share their views on proposed reforms to the Board.
