TORONTO – Less than two years on the job, Rory Capern has abruptly stepped down as managing director of Twitter Canada.

Capern took on the top job early in 2016 as a replacement for former director Kirstine Stewart.  At that time, Stewart was elevated to Twitter's VP of North American media, but left the company last September to join London-based lifestyle and entertainment media company Diply.

Capern said on Twitter Wednesday that he was “grateful for the chance to lead Twitter Canada” and that he was “looking forward to what’s next”.  No further details as to his future plans were made available.

A Twitter Canada spokesperson confirmed that a search for a new managing director is underway and that Leanne Gibson, Twitter Canada’s head of agency development, will lead the office on an interim basis.
