TORONTO – After unveiling the schedule of new shows for its Global TV network, Shaw Media patted itself on the back for what it described as its “continuing commitment to the Canadian television production industry”.
The company said Tuesday that it has 15 new scripted dramas planned for the next year, which it describes as more than any other Canadian broadcaster. Global TV plans to air Combat Hospital, a second season of Rookie Blue, The Firm, Bomb Girls and Titanic, while Showcase will air second seasons of Lost Girl, King and Haven, as well as World Without End, based on Ken Follett’s multi-million bestseller of the same name.
Other productions include Almost Heroes, Single White Spenny, Rave Squad, Triumph of Will, Drunk And On Drugs Happy Funtime Hour and season two of Producing Parker.
"We’re extremely proud of the role we’ve played in championing original Canadian dramas," said Barbara Williams, Shaw Media’s SVP of content, in the release. "This past year proved to be a real turning point for our local productions attracting record Canadian audiences and unprecedented attention from the U.S. And with four U.S. network simulcasts scheduled over the next 12 months, the future is only looking brighter for homegrown productions.”
