NHK World-Japan launches on Optik TV

TOKYO — Japan’s international 24-hour English-language television channel, NHK World-Japan, became part of Telus’ channel lineup on Tuesday. As the first operator in Canada to include NHK World-Japan on its platform, Telus plans to provide the channel in HD for free to its viewers in western Canada for three months. Telus supports low-income seniors with cheap plans and free phones

VANCOUVER — Telus today launched its Mobility for Good for Seniors program which provides Canadian seniors on the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) a free smartphone and subsidized mobility rate plan. Available now, the program includes a free refurbished smartphone, unlimited nationwide talk and text, and 3GB of data for $25 per month. Mobility for Good for Seniors is entirely subsidized by Telus, with no cost to the government or taxpayers, the company says in its press release. Xplornet picks Ericsson gear for rural 5G wireless broadband deployment

Toronto transit users want “evolved” rail network, says BAI Communications

TORONTO — As a follow-up to the release of its global 2020 Connectivity Outlook Report in September, BAI Communications this week released Toronto-specific data from the report, which shows a high percentage of Toronto rail users are interested in 5G connectivity and think they would benefit from an “evolved” transit network. Telecom complaints drop 19%

OTTAWA — Consumer complaints to the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS) decreased 19% this year compared to last, according to the organization’s 2019-20 annual report released this morning. This is the first year-over-year decline in the number of complaints reaching the CCTS since the 2015-16 fiscal year, says this year’s report, which covers the period from August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020. In total, 15,868 complaints were filed this year, with 89% of them being successfully resolved by the parties following CCTS’s intervention.
