Canadian Bird Nerd finds a home on Optik TV

VANCOUVER – Optik TV customers who are also animal lovers and birdwatchers can now watch live streamer Jessica Duquette, also known as the Canadian Bird Nerd on Telus Optik TV.

Birdwatching and other nature-focused live streams have become a source of comfort for people to watch during the pandemic and viewers have come to enjoy watching “the drama in Jessica’s backyard unfold, the lead characters being the birds along with special guest appearances from other critters,” says a release from Telus.

“Jessica battles a number of challenges in her life, including chronic illness and living in isolation. Through her passion for animals, Jessica set up cameras and feeders in her backyard and began her YouTube channel in 2019. Since then, her following has grown to more than 4,000 subscribers and almost one million views. More importantly, her channel is a source of comfort to her growing community of viewers around the world, who find education and entertainment through her bird feeding live streams, and particularly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.”

To support Jessica’s growing viewership, Telus is also providing her with complimentary high-speed Internet and is showcasing the Canadian Bird Nerd for Optik TV customers through video on demand, Indigenous Voices on channel 126, and Curiosity Corner on channel 720.

The Canadian Bird Nerd live streams are currently played in senior care homes, in schools, and are watched by researchers from over 40 different countries in the world, says Telus.
