New technology turns Telus employees’ smartphones into virtual security badges

TORONTO and LONDON, ENGLAND – Telus has announced a partnership with a U.K. software company that will allow its employees to access the company’s secure buildings, networks and sensitive data from anywhere at any time with a simple tap of their smartphones. The partnership with Intercede, a provider of identity and credential management software, will use a technology called MyID that uses universal integrated circuit cards and personal identity verification (PIV) technology from Gemalto, a digital security company based in The Netherlands. Telus supporting Safer Internet Day with online discussion

Telus, CIBC partner on mobile payments app

TORONTO – Telus jumped in to the mobile payments game Tuesday, partnering with CIBC on a mobile payment app for Telus mobile devices with Near-Field Communications (NFC) capability. Beginning today, Telus customers using the CIBC Mobile Payment App and that have a CIBC credit card account will be able to make mobile payments under $50 at popular retailers across Canada including coffee shops and grocery stores. CRTC to consider Rogers Media licences, Telus PPV, in April

OTTAWA – The CRTC will examine licence renewal applications from Rogers Media, plus consider a second request for a Canadian film channel and a pay-per-view service for Telus at a hearing scheduled for April 8, 2014 in Gatineau. Launches this week: Sasktel brings high speed Internet to four more communities REGINA – SaskTel has rolled out high speed Internet to Bruno, Annaheim, Elbow and Middle Lake. Residents of these communities are now eligible to subscribe to SaskTel’s High Speed Basic Level 2 package that gives speeds of up to 5 Mbps download. Telus’ complaint on auction eligibility rules dismissed by court

OTTAWA – The Federal Court has shot down a request by Telus challenging the Industry Minister’s authority to set the eligibility requirements for parties participating in next week’s 700 MHz spectrum auction.  The telco was also ordered to pay for the costs of pursuing its legal action. CityWest hands off cellular business to Telus

PRINCE RUPERT, BC – CityWest is getting out of the cellular business “to focus investments on other product lines” and is referring its wireless customers in Prince Rupert to Telus. New portal helps Telus customers’ track data use while travelling

TORONTO – Telus has rolled out a new mobile portal called Travel Tracker to help customers manage their data usage and costs in real-time while travelling.
