Telus helps young adults from care stay connected

VANCOUVER – Telus is joining a pilot program in BC that aims to help youth transitioning from foster care to stay connected. The Vancouver-based company is making Moto G smart phones available to up to 1,000 current and former youth in care.  The devices include monthly phone and data plan credits for up to two years, plus unlimited nationwide talk and text, and up to 3GB of monthly data usage. Telus offers U.S. travellers more options

VANCOUVER – Telus has expanded its smartphone plans for customers who are frequent U.S. travellers, snowbirds, and those with family and friends in the United States. The telco said Monday that its new Canada-U.S. monthly rate plan works the same in both countries, with unlimited calling and texting to Canadian and U.S. numbers as well as usage from the customer’s data bucket while in Canada or the US. Telus connecting Chilliwack residents to its PureFibre network

CHILLIWACK, B.C. – Telus will invest $55 million to connect more than 90% of homes and businesses in Chilliwack directly to its fibre optic network. Telus Q4 profits fall 69% on one-time restructuring charge

VANCOUVER – Despite subscriber growth in both wireless and wireline operations, Telus saw fourth quarter profits plunge 69%, the company reported Thursday. For the period ended December 31, net income fell to $87 million from $261 million year-over-year, impacted by higher restructuring and others costs, primarily reflecting a $305 million one-time “transformative compensation expense” made to employees.  When excluding restructuring and other costs, net gains and equity income from real estate joint venture developments, and favourable income tax-related adjustments, adjusted net income dipped 2.5%. Telus buys another small B.C. cableco

SALMON ARM, B.C. – Mascon Cable Systems was purchased last week by Telus Corp., Cartt.ca has learned. The purchase price was not announced but the this is the second rural B.C. cable operation purchase by the big western telco in four months. Telus to discontinue Extend service, calling CRTC’s 9-1-1 directive “technically unworkable and cost-prohibitive”

Telus Extend’s non-compliance poses public safety risk, says CRTC

OTTAWA – The CRTC has ordered Telus to add 9-1-1 emergency service to its nomadic local VoIP service Telus Extend by the end of the year. Telus Extend is a downloadable mobile application available to Telus mobility customers that allows them to use their Telus Mobility telephone number to make/receive calls or text messages over Wi-Fi.  The service, launched in 2014, is available by invitation only to select customers with Android and iOS devices.
