Feds hang up on 80,000 landlines in $176M VoIP contract with Telus

OTTAWA – Telus has won a seven-year, $176 million contract from the federal government to upgrade its communications services to include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone, instant messaging, and desktop videoconferencing. UPDATED: Telus restores services in southeastern Alberta after storm-related outages

CALGARY – Telus has restored service to customers in southeastern Alberta after power outages caused by a winter storm disrupted some wireless and home services in the region. Telus adds YouTube to Optik TV

VANCOUVER – Telus customers now have access to YouTube’s HD and 4K videos on their home’s biggest screen after the app was added to Optik TV 4K set-top boxes. Telus isn’t worried about Shaw bundles

MONTREAL – After getting into wireless last year with the purchase of Wind (now Freedom) Mobile, many expect Shaw to soon start offering wireline/wireless bundles in the west just as Telus, its biggest competitor, already offers. Telus inches closer to 1 Gb wireless speeds

VANCOUVER – Telus hit wireless speeds of nearly 1 Gbps in its downtown Vancouver 5G Living Lab last week, the company announced Wednesday. Telus said that it successfully completed the first test of Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) on indoor and outdoor live networks in Canada, delivering download speeds of 970 Mbps indoors and 966 Mbps outdoors using 80 MHz of aggregated spectrum in a live, dynamic production network. Telus postpaid wireless subscribers up substantially while churn dives

VANCOUVER — Adding 99,000 net new postpaid wireless subscribers in its most recent quarter represents a 62% increase over the same quarter in 2016 means a great boost to revenue for Telus, but due to the costs of subscriber acquisition, net income was down compared to last year. Telus reported EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of $1.19 billion in the second quarter of 2017, a 0.4% increase over  Q2 2016. Older Canadians slow to embrace digital health technologies: Telus Health

TORONTO – While older Canadians are the most likely to benefit from digital health technology, they are also the least likely to adopt it, says a new study commissioned by Telus Health. According to the survey, Canadians in the baby boomer (52+) and greatest generation (age 71+) categories reported they were the most likely to access a healthcare provider (78%).
