OTTAWA – Shaw Communications has added adult channel Red Light District TV to both its Star Choice and Shaw Cable channel lineups.
"Red Light District TV joins Hustler TV as Canada’s most widely distributed adult programming channel," said channel owner Ten Broadcasting, in a press release.
Until now, Red Light was previously only available on Rogers Cable and, thanks an affiliate agreement with the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance, on some CCSA member systems.

OTTAWA – Shaw Communications has sold its interests in digital specialty services Biography Channel and G4TechTV to Rogers Communications.
The CRTC approved both transactions on Monday. Rogers Broadcasting is already the operator of both Canadian channels.
Rogers paid Shaw $1 million for its 33.3% stake in G4 and now owns two-thirds of the channel along with Comcast, the parent company of the U.S. channel.
Rogers paid $5 million combined for Shaw’s 40% stake in Biography and A&E Television Networks’ 20% ownership, to take 100% of the service. AETN owns Biography Channel, Stateside.

VANCOUVER – Shaw Cable has added Italian channel RAI International to its digital cable lineup in Vancouver.
"Customers who currently subscribe to Telelatino will have the option of subscribing to RAI International and expanding their Italian programming choices," says the press release. RAI International is the international service of Italy’s largest television broadcaster, and had to battle Telelatino in order to gain access to the eligible satellite list in Canada.

CALGARY – Shaw Communications said Wednesday that it plans to implement DOCSIS 3.0 products as soon as it can.
The company issued a press release saying so.
CableLabs recently released its data over cable service interface specifications (DOCSIS) 3.0 specs which, when implemented in the future it will enable data speeds of 160 Mbps or higher available in the downstream, and 120 Mbps or higher in the upstream.

CALGARY – Whistler Cable is the latest small cable system to sell to Shaw Communications.
Shaw announced it has signed a deal to buy Whistler Cable Television Ltd., subject to approval of the Toronto Stock Exchange. Whistler Cable operates cable and Internet systems in Whistler and Pemberton, British Columbia.
This year, Shaw has already purchased Pemberton Cable and Norcom Cable.

CALGARY – Shaw Cable’s top speed service is now speedier, the company announced today.
Shaw’s High-Speed Xtreme-I service now allows customers to download Internet files at 10Mbps, a 40% increase, says the company. Shaw’s High-Speed Xtreme-I customers will automatically receive the upgraded service at no extra cost.

CALGARY and KENORA – Shaw Communications has signed a deal to purchase Norcom Telecommunications Limited it was announced today.
Kenora Ont.-based Norcom operates cable systems located in Northwestern Ontario including Kenora, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Ear Falls and Ignace, and owns the local television station, CJBN-TV Kenora. It is owned by LeBlanc & Royal, the former broadcast tower manufacturer, which has been selling off most of its assets for a few years.

CALGARY and AUSTIN, TX – Shaw Communications subsidiary Big Pipe Inc., which provides data networking and Internet services to businesses, has purchased an OC-192-based U.S. network backbone service from Broadwing.
