First CTAM event of 2007 attracts a crowd

TORONTO – A well-attended networking "President’s Reception" kicked off the new year in style for CTAM Canada at Flow Restaurant in Toronto Wednesday evening. CTF: Cable pullouts could mean production cutbacks

MONTREAL – With Shaw and now Videotron having stopped payment on their monthly cheques to the Canadian Television Fund, the CTF board of directors said late Wednesday it has retained legal counsel and warned the TV production community of a problematic year. As the largest TV distributor, Shaw (which also owns Star Choice) is the largest private contributor to the CTF while Videotron would be the fourth-largest. Together, their contributions make up almost half of the $150 million contributed by the industry each year to the $250 million fund. The rest comes from the federal government. CanWest hires Spencer

TORONTO – Long-time Rogers Media affiliate marketing and sales manager Ian Spencer is moving to CanWest MediaWorks. His last day with Rogers is January 19th. Spencer has been with Rogers for four years and came to the company when it purchased Sportsnet from CTV about four years ago. Spencer has worked for the sports channel since its inception as CTV Sportsnet. Lindsay hires Skarica

PETERBOROUGH – Lindsay Broadband has hired Christopher Skarica as its new vice-president of engineering. Skarica spent 11 years in cable (Maclean-Hunter, Rogers, Cogeco) before moving to Nortel Networks in 1999 and then Broadbus Technologies (now Motorola) in 2004.
