TORONTO – Rogers has launched an iPhone application for its 52 radio stations.
Available free to Rogers Wireless and Fido customers, the Rogers Radio iPhone app provides the ability to search by genre, station, city or by ‘Near Me’. Listeners can also request a song, get details on the last 10 songs played, link to the station’s website and share their favourite station with friends via email.

TORONTO – Rogers has officially launched “the next big thing in television”, otherwise known as its broadband portal Rogers On Demand Online.
After launching RODO in a beta phase last November, the company announced Wednesday that the platform will feature new content plus new social tools, new primetime and multicultural programming, improved functionality, higher resolution and live streaming capabilities.

OTTAWA – Bell Canada and Bell Aliant plan to appeal a recent CRTC decision not allowing them to implement usage-based billing (UBB) on their wholesale customers until they do so for all of their retail customers.
“This aspect of Decision 2010-255 will be the subject of a forthcoming application to review and vary that decision, which the companies expect to submit in the coming days,” states comments filed to Telecom Notice of Consultation 2009-261.

OTTAWA – The time has come to eliminate wholesale regulation of retail Internet services, two of the countries largest communications companies tell Cartt.ca. They say intermodal competition – cable versus DSL versus wireless – has rendered the need for a wholesale access regime unnecessary.
The comments come as the CRTC prepares to hear oral arguments in a very broad hearing dealing with wholesale access to certain broadband facilities. The proceeding, launched with Telecom Notice of Consultation 2009-261 begins on Monday.

Rogers Media has kicked off a new programming initiative called Shorts in the City, which claims to offer Canadians the largest selection of serialized on-line video content available in the country. TORONTO – In yet another example of competing networks working together, Rogers Sportsnet, TSN2 and Setanta Canada have signed an agreement that will give the three networks Canadian broadcast rights to England’s Barclays Premier League (BPL) matches over the next three seasons.

LOS ANGELES – Spurred in many cases by increased competition from telecom providers, the big North American cable operators are now offering ultra-fast wideband service throughout much of the continent.
