Rogers extends content to iPad, iPhone customers

TORONTO – Rogers Media has added Prom Queen: The Homecoming to its Shorts in the City programming initiative, which now includes free iPad and iPhone applications. Premiering July 5th, the newest installment in the Prom Queen series features 22 episodes which will be released over the coming weeks at Citytv.com, Flare.com and Louloumagazine.com. Rogers to launch new discount wireless brand this fall, say reports

TORONTO – Rogers Communications is preparing for the launch of another new wireless brand this fall, say several reports. The story was originally broken by the Boy Genius Report late last week and cbcnews.ca added a story here. Others have since done reports, too. The new brand is said to be aimed at wireless newcomers such as Wind, Mobilicity, Public Mobile and Videotron and will add an additional option for consumers in the low-cost segment of the market. TORONTO – Canadians audiences can’t get enough of the extensive coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it seems. With CBC recording impressive audience figures for its television coverage, Rogers said that Canadians across the country are also turning to their laptops, home computers and mobile devices to catch the games. Two purchases and a format switch in Canadian radio industry

TORONTO and CALGARY – It’s been a busy week for Canada’s radio industry. After buying up BOB-FM (CHST-FM) earlier this week, Rogers Broadcasting also acquired Edmonton’s BOUNCE (CHBN-FM) from CTV’s CHUM Radio and Milestone Media Broadcasting. Billing error will cost Rogers about $30M

TORONTO – Rogers Communications owes $30 million to approximately 300,000 of its customers who were overcharged during a recent discount program. The mistake, which Rogers said arose as a result of administrative error and system related issues, varies for each customer depending on their tenure in the ‘Better Choice Bundles’ discount program and the number of services they have, the company said.  Rogers introduced the program to offer customers a discount when they purchase two or more eligible communications services with a two-year contract term and a consolidated monthly invoice. PPM data knocks CBC Radio One from top spot

TORONTO – As widely anticipated, the portable people meters (PPM) have shaken up the radio ratings for some of Canada’s largest radio markets. According to PPM data for March 1 to May 30, 2010, from BBM, CBC Radio One has been toppled from its long held spot atop the rankings in the markets of Vancouver and Toronto. Rogers ventures in to London radio market

TORONTO – Rogers Broadcasting has bought London, ON radio station BOB-FM (CHST-FM) from CTV’s CHUM Radio. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. “We’re excited about operating in the city of London," said Rogers radio CEO Paul Ski, in Monday’s announcement. "Our stations always have a local focus and we’re eager to build upon the strong local lens that BOB-FM has on London."
